The delete plate is shiny stainless steel, it appears to be red because it's reflecting the red leather interior. Good guess though.

I doubt it's painted. Polished stainless will reflect everything, especially bright red leather. Either way, that's not it. ;)

Matthew, there is nothing incorrect about that car. It is restored correctly as per the build sheet. For further info, go to www.1956goldenhawk.com and the newsletters pages. I believe its issue #43 that has the majority of the info on that particular car. The car was 'special order' and indeed does deviate from what the factory literature states.

Good call Matt! I think I'll go to Baskin Robbins tonite! That car is absolutety gorgeous!![^]:) I saw it at Spokane International, and could not stop admiring it! I can tell you that everything important on it are correct and original looking, something that I have rarely seen on a restoration. And most importantly the unusual special order items, he has the documentation to prove it!:D Still if I were the judge, it would get the maximum allowed authenticity deduction for something as simply WRONG as that, even though he is a great guy, I am a impartial SDC judge-Damnit! ! It would probably take less than 1 minute to 'put it right' for show.

I have no idea. I know the 57-58 GH's had the emblems in the bottom right corner. 56 Hawks (all of them) have the emblems in the middle; as well as a neat chrome surround for the handle, which is also in a location only the 56 Hawks had.

Well, if a first-time poster can chip in here, according to Frank Ambrogio's 56J authenticity guide, most 56 Golden Hawks had chrome trunk script, but gold script was introduced late in the model year for South Bend cars. Frank thinks the LA assembled Golden Hawks probably used chrome script till the end.

Welcome aboard black56hawk! Yeah, while both chrome & gold scripts are affored their own part numbers in the body parts book, there's no notataion of what serial numbers or plants the differnces were introduced. Not something often overlooked.[B)]

Just curious--- it looks like this car has a padded dash. Was that an option on the '56 Golden Hawks? (I've never seen a '56 with one.)
