  • Studebaker book review

Just received my copy of "Some thoughts on restoring a Studebaker" book. It's very well written and filled with lots of common sense tips that everyone should know or learn before doing a restoration. Having said that, if you are one of the guys that's been doing this for 10-60 years it'll be of less use to you than someone fairly new at restoration.

If you are the guy asking a lot of questions on here, this book is likely to answer them too. If you are a bit of a expert, even the few tips you'll pick up are worth the price of the book. i.e. how to make the correct windlace, converting your Studebaker distributor to a Mopar unit and the like. Also lots of tips we all learned the hard way. i.e. don't drill through your new carpet only to watch it unwind onto your drill bit.

    Another review:

"Got mine last night also. I concur with JP if you've been doing this
for awhile it'll be pretty light reading. However if on the other end
of the experince curve this books would be of great value. It written
well, professionally printed and easy to read unlike the other books on
stude tips, however not near as technical as the books by DD, never the
    less, I'd recommend it.

You mean someone else besides me has been stupid enough to do that?

Back in the 80's I bought a Mustang restoration book. It had a chapter on how to evaluate a car before purchase. It went into specific body problems to look for that developed in these cars over time and use. It was a great help to me on the first two mustangs that I bought and re-built.
I would like to have seen the same type info in the Stude book and was a little disappointed that this information wasn't included. Info like that is a real help to a newbie and could save them the grief of purchasing a car that is way beyond their skills and finances and just becomes another stripped hulk under a tarp.
The DD books did have some really good info as well, wish he would do an updated version.
