  • What is this 63 R1 4 speed sedan worth?

The owner sent photos. It looks like she needs a lot of work. What would be fair market value for this car? I'd love to own one but it may need mucho $ to restore:

Judging by the photos, I am a little afraid about the underneath. I realize these cars don't grow on trees however. I'd really like a factory R1 or R2 4 speed car. Should I hold out for a rust free one?
    Thanks
    Todd

About $500-$750 for the parts value since it does not appear to be a R1.

I concur with JDP. No evidence of the badges on the fenders and the engine has none of the Avanti dress up items.

Can you say 'sleeper'? Yeah. looks like it's been asleep for a while.

worth saving the dash pad though. looks surprisingly decent considering the way the rest of the car looks.

tstclr -Todd; I would get him to give you the engine number from the machined pad to the drivers side of the oil filler pipe block-off plate with the STAMPED in number. If he say's it says Vxxx or Pxxx forget it, if it is JTxxx or JTSxxx the engine is worth the 500-800.00, the car $0 ! I do think it could be a JT, I saved & enlarged the pic (poor quality) and it looks to me like a RH chrome valve cover & a LH replacement stock yellow one. That could be the remains of a "dress-up" kit on a stock 259/289, but more likely a R1(JT) because the other clue is what looks like a R1 coil resister on the coil! and possibly twin adjusting arm "humps" and HD cooling blades on a 40 amp Avanti HD Alternator. Good luck- Rich.

I can't see the pan breather, but it does have the 40 amp alternator. If it's a R1, might be worth $1000 or so for parts.

Thanks guys. I have requested engine numbers and the whereabouts of the R1 emblems etc. The guy says it's a true R1. Were there standard Larks sold with 4 speed transmissions? What else should I look for in a true R1 or R2? Say the car is legit, is it still only worth $7-800? My 63 is in better shape body wise so I could swap some of the sheetmetal. The owner is looking for $2200. I'd hate to be like the guys 30 years ago who passed on Hemicudas cuz they were selling for 4 grand.

Yes, there were plenty of Larks with 'plain' engine's with 4 speeds. Speaking of dash pads, I have one from a 63 that has one little crack right above the guages. (they all do) What's it worth? http://community.webshots.com/album/548283360eWWkXl Just know, it looks a LOT dirtier in the pics.

Sure Todd, there were 289's and even quite a few 259's with 4 speed trans. ordered with or without 4 barrel carb. Dual exhausts & other "performance items".
Then there were the Avanti Powered R1/R2 Larks/Hawks and very late in the '63 production run, there were a few "package" cars with the full Avanti package of rear stabilizer bar, traction bars, HD shocks, HD springs, Tachometer, seat belts, 140 or 160 Speedo the works!

Early Avanti powered Larks/Hawks did not have fender emblems.
