    I love it [] (but probably one of those cars that you either love or hate). Sits just right. Very nice lines. The fins fit the theme! Chock full of nifty touches.

    IMHO, it's worth much more than the $38k appraisal. A "pro" duplicate of this car would be well over $100k. The "freshining" probably cost close to $20k. A lot of history here.

    Stude powered for Mr. Biggs. Yellow for Deepnhock .

              All right Mr. Steinkamp, I DO like to see Studes restored to original. BUT, if the hot rod job was done 40+ years ago, I don't mind them being rodded. Besides, 50's hot rods are just cool, no matter what the make. I blame it all on Jeff Rice, he let me drive his 37 Coupe Express, and that did the trick... I've really come to appreciate hot rods here lately and the more I see them the more I like it. I'm still like em stock, but the occasional modified Stude is OK, just as long as it's ALL Stude. And as for Jeff, he keeps telling me about that 289 he's gonna stick in there someday. But his truck's still cool. I'm intending on going to McPherson College for auto restoration, and intend to restore Studes to their original beauty. Maybe the occasional 'restorod' every now and then...
              BTW, your S2D is all Stude, right?

                  I was thinking it was a 289. [xx(] But, I guess an Avanti II is Stude enough... Jeff's 37 CE has a McKinnon engine.

                    Very, very Novel. You don't see many like that one! Dad wouldn't let him have a pickup truck, even tho Dad let him ride Motorcycles and go to Wild Barbeques and cut up his Classic Studebaker. I would not make an El Ranchero out of a C/K. A Lark or 56-58 Sedan, maybe. But if I were, I'da gone whole hog there and installed Suicide Doors, one-piece flip front end, put the engine(2 blown Hemmis) in the cargo area, welded the tailgate shut and filled the seams. Yellow is fine, but I'd also have bright green flames, too! And, a Nine-Inch Ford Rear. It would be the only one in Texas, I am sure.

                      I like it as well...
                      I think it needs some tweaking around the read window area...
                      The transition is too abrupt to be 'Studestyle'....
                      And the tailgate/trunk area needs a subtle tweak...
                      Maybe a later Hawk 'ribbed' stule rear panel...
                      But the pic's of it in black made me smile big time...
                      Especially with the bike in there...
                      Stude's were meant to be used...AND abused

                            Until the cows come home we will debate and express our opinions on the restored/modified preference. Matthew's now hedging his bets but I think it's not an either/or question.

                            I think we would, and should, lament any modified piece of crap, whose design has not been thought through and well executed. I greatly admire Frankenstude, which will exist and make more people aware of Studebaker than the vehicle that lent its sheetmetal to the project. Also Shrock's '40 President boattail.

                            Barlow Soper's Modified and Custom Corner column in Turning Wheels attests to the fact that SDC embraces all interests involving Studebakers.

                            If we object to a customized/modified Studebaker I hope our real objection is to lack of thought, design and execution. For every well done project there will be a hundred hack jobs. Hopefully, that is our peeve.

                            I would probably not (read definitely not) put the Turnpike Cruiser antennas on the back of the cab but, overall, I like this and think someone should take it under their wing and keep it well.
