  • Red Spark Plug Wires

My original wires from my 64 R1 Super Hawk are red. I'd like to replace them. All I can find now are black. Where can we get red wires to make the restoration look accurate? Thanks.

The factory wires were a drab maroon, the repro wire kits I sell are back. I'd need to order 10,000 feet to get a custom color made.

That makes one set of REEEAAAAALLLLY long wires!

I ordered a set of Red 8mm High Voltage wires from Pertronix (Car Shop, Inc) in Moline, Illinois - (800) 603-4359 for the 259 in my Lark. They are bright red.

They are not bright red from the factory. The drab maroon looks black unless you have good light.

Dan; In the International Meets, Zone Meets and local SDC Meets I have judged at, no-one has EVER shown up with a '63-'64 Studebaker 6 or 8 which originally had maroon wires, STILL on the car after 43 years the carbon string resistence wires have long since been trashed and are NO LONGER AVAILABLE and guess what, nobody cares, the Black stays cleaner better and looks better anyway... forget it, you will not lose any points!
Just don't use those stupid looking Red, Blue or Yellow ones! Spark plug wires are not a dress-up item like chrome valve covers, they were meant to "disappear" over the valve covers, not stand out like a sore thumb![xx(] Rich.

I actually have most of a set off my '62; I gave a couple to Brian Scott because he expressed some interest in seeing if he could repro them (I don't think it is feasible with the volumes that would be needed to bring the price down to an affordable level) and they actually did work, although I went ahead and put new wires on on principle.

If it's that important to you, see if SASCO will sell you one each of the NOS single factory wires they have in stock to see if you can make a set.
