  • selling my 1942 Commander

Hello. a few years ago i bought a 1942 studebaker commander with
suicide doors. i love this car dearly but i now realize i will never
have enough time, money or skill to restore it the way it so
desperately deserves. i think the engine needs totally rebuilt. it
still has most of the original chrome, missing back window. body is
solid with some surface rust. the interior needs totally redone.

I LOVE this care and I am so sad to let it go, but I am hoping to get a 1930's or 40's vehicle I can drive.

i am wondering how much i should ask for this rare diamond in the
rough. Can you guys please make any suggestions? Anyone want to trade?
    Please email me with
    any thoughts. thank you!

Pictures would be a big part of determing an unseen car's value. You can email them to me if you like and I can post them on the web. No problem...

It sounds like a condition #5 Old Cars Price Guide car..."Restorable. Needs complete restoration of body, chassis and interior. May or may not be running, but isn't weathered, wrecked, and/or stripped to the point of being useful only for parts. This car needs everything. It may not be operable, but it is essentially all there and has only minor surface rust if any rust at all. While presenting a real challenge to the restorer, it won't have him doing a lot of chasing for missing parts."

The OCPG lists a condition #5 Commander Deluxstyle 4 door at $1700...a few bucks less for the Custom. The OCPG is thought of as being a little low by some SDC members.

It would be good to know where you are. Moving a relatively inexpensive fixer-upper a long distance is probably not cost effective.

Good luck with the sale. They are certainly nifty cars

I bought a '63 Champ off of a fellow a couple of years ago in Pa. who had a '42 President tucked away in the corner of his garage. It had 3 NOS fenders with it and looked to be in good shape. He said he would let it go for $4500.

Where are the photos[?][?][?] All I see are a studebaker advert and 3 Image hosted by Tripod squares where I guess the photos would be.
Hope you get a good price for your car.
