Well the Lark failed to reach my reserve price of $4,000.00 so I guess I will just keep it and replace the door weather strips, if I can find a source for them. I do want to thank those of you in the forum who placed bids on the car as it only takes one person who is interested in the car to bid as long as someone else helps them get to the reserve price.

I'm very sorry to read that. :( If a car as nice as yours - with a V8 no less - can't break $4K then I have no hopes for selling my 6-cylinder car for near that price. Had I known it'd be this difficult to sell a Lark I'd never have bought mine in the first place.

Not hard to sell a Lark, just hard to sell a 4 door. Even the 2 door sedan Larks are making a move. There is nothing wrong with a 4 door, they are just at the bottom of the food chain value wise. As I read in a book called "How to make money on your collector car and enjoy every minute", if you want to make a profit, you need to choose the correct car. In the case of 4 doors, just enjoy the car and accept that you'll likly spend more on a restoration then the car will bring on resale.
You'll still do better then buying a new brand X and selling after a few years.

Fortunately, sane people don't usually get into old cars for profit making. JDP is one a thousand club members that does it (not that he's insane ;)). I'm glad more people don't do it because either it would drive prices of all models through the roof, or the competition would break everybody.

My interest in Studebakers started with a 1962 four door sedan thirty-four years ago. It would be so cool to get some young people in to these, still relatively affordable, sedans. Dependable transportation that doesn't depreciate like Accords, Stanzas and (shudder) Escorts.
Build an interest in the marque and a future for the SDC.[8D]

Just a slight correction. I did not get in the hobby to make money, I make money enjoying the hobby. Like most of you, I lost money on the Studebakers I sold for the first 30-40 years I've been a Studebaker nut.
I became a parts vendor in the 70's, only did the cars thanks to ebay.
Now, I'm living a dream, can't wait to see the next car roll in, then can't wait to head out to the garage in the morning. I love fixing up Studebakers, doing it for a living is just bonus.
I've always been a fan of the "Flashy Studebakers", now I can afford to play with them, for a while at least.:)

My 24 year old son has strange Studebaker taste. He saw a 57 President 4 door and fell in love with it. Everytime I get a C-K in, he'll say "Nice, but when are you going to buy a President" :)

You, of all people, should appreciate his innate knowledge that the 57 President sedan is a better built, more comfortable ride than any C/K model. Find him one, while they are still affordable.

He can take good care of it and ten years from now I can buy it from him.:D

If we wanted to turn a profit on our old cars, we'd be driving Fords and Chevies. But being Studephiles, we drive our cars because we love them.
Case in point: I was at a cruise night with a couple of friends and one of them had his beautiful '52 Chevy 2 door hardtop. My '59 Lark Regal Hardtop was next to his. More people came over to my car and raved about it. My friend was a little upset until I told him that most people know about Chevies but when they see a Studebaker, it's a little more rare and people take more notice.
Actually, I think my Lark is cuter too.

JDP, I can relate to that. My father has always had Chevys, Corvettes and Cadillacs. He's got a factory fuel injected 1957 Corvette and a factory fuel injected 1957 BelAir 2 door hardtop. They're nice cars, but I get more exctied about my fairly beat up 1966 Cruiser and want a 1957 Hawk with a 6 cylinder engine. [8D]

I agree that 4 doors will never make money but they offer all of the elements of any other body style. I purchased a 4 door on purpose because I could get so much more car for way less money and when you dust a 65 Mustang or small block Chevy it is very satisfing to have done it with an old 4 door. Kind of fun to have someone wonder what was that!
