  • Zip Van...?

    Hi,
Newbie here trying to get some info on Zip Vans.
I am after some detail photos of all 4 sides and specs for me to scratch build a model in 1/32 and 1/24 scales.
I've been looking out plastic or diecasts with no luck, so figured I'd have a go at making my own.

    Can anyone help[?]

try googleing studebaker zip van under the images section of google, I came up with a few pictures one of which was from a auto salvage yard, it showed both sides and front, that sounds like a neat model project I would like to see pictures when you are through.

      Hey another Aussie onlist!!!!
Where are you located? (I'm in Adelaide)

Try searching ebay for model zip vans.

I seem to recall someone making a model (Matchbox; Corgi;Dinky???)

Only a small one I think.

      Goodluck

        5859,
        Thanks, I have google image searched those plus a couple of others. They give some details, but I was hoping some Zip Van nut may have better ones, plus let me know some dimensions, like;
        Wheelbase
        Overall width
        Overall length
        Overall height
        etc.

        Hi John,
        Yep, another Aussie.
I'm in Sydney, and in the Stude car club.
I've been looking on ebay for a while with no luck, and haven't seen any matchbox/corgi/dinky anything.
That's why I figured I'd have a go at making them. I'm into model making and slot cars, so it shouldn't be too hard to make it. Hardest part is getting info and pics to start.

There were some pics and article in Turning Wheels a while ago, and I'll dig those out, but if someone can help, I'd appreciate it.

        Thanks for the posts.

It's been about 30 years since I have owned a Zip Van, but my memory says that they are 144 inches long. Other than that, I know that it was way too tall to fit through my six foot six inch garage door opening. It would take many hours for me to locate the books for it. Hopefully, someone else will look up the dimensions in the shop manual or Turning Wheels.
