  • Trunk lock modification - cable release.

I am working on a 53 coupe - making it a daily driver.
I smoothed the trunk lid, removing all chrome.
Does anyone have experience with changing the trunk lock to
    cable release operating?
    If so please advise.
    thanks.

I did it on my '54 Starliner. Pretty simple (if I can do it, anybody can ). You can put the business end of the pull handle a variety of places. One place would be like it was done with the Avanti. I placed mine like it is done for a deck lid release on a rear engined Porsche. I sunk a metal "cup" (half a sphere) in the rear of the driver's side door jamb and terminated the handle/cable there. Just find a throttle, hood release, choke type handle/cable you like.

The cable then runs into the trunk area and fastens in a couple places to the inside of the deck lid. The cable then pulls on the latch release that is attached to the deck lid. You have to do a little fabracating on the latch, but very little.

I'll send you some pictures if you need them.

(BTW, and electric solonoid is easier to do, but if your battery is in the trunk like mine, it probably wouldn't be a good idea).
