I'll be bringin' this one home soon. Clean it up a bit - get it running and offer it to the bidding public.[8D]

There's also this one, that I can't make up my mind if I want or not.

How about a tip to the rest of us on how you find these gems in the rough?

If the interior is OK I can see the asking price. Esp. if it has a supercharger. Chrome looks good and the body straight, so it might be an OK deal.

They're still made in Brazil, you know. They've got a special Ford 289 with funny valve covers, too. ;)

Wow, what a surprise- Mr. Biggs is bringing it home! That Packard looks too darn good, not so much for the Commander, but it'll clean up, I'm sure...

N8N~ There ought not be a blower on the Packard- just Hawks in '58, but you never know- I've seen it done, and think about doing mine that way from time to time! Good price none the less, it'll sell for a bunch more when the time comes.

Yeah nate, only P-Hawks got a blower in '58. I'm not sure the sedans could have been ordered with one although there's certainly room for one if asked for.
This one's wearing a new Edelbrock carb. Got PS and PB as options.;)

BTW, don't let the Commander's looks fool you. The owner had taped up alot of the brightwork and then BRUSHED on a coat of primer. Guess it was a preservation manuver. Easily rectified. It's almost all there save for front seat cushions and door panels. There's a bit of rust thru in the floorboards - about what you'd expect out here. 259 auto driveline. I'm sure it runs.:D

Another PackeBaker! Have to think about starting a Registry(maybe). I was wondering about the color scheme--the lower body is burgundy, but the fins, top, hood and fender extensions around the headlights are white, or did they swap on some light-colored front end pieces? Do they have any spare parts for sale?

Roscomacaw
03-30-2006, 08:42 PM
No, no parts for sale. In fact, I've gotta find some to fill this one out. As to the paint scheme, the previous owner wasn't too worried about "original". He did the two-tone up the way he wanted it.[}:)]

Lucky Guy! We don't find those in that nice shape here back east in the rust belt! It's nice to know those rarities have a new, appreciative owner. They sure look good to me, especially the Packard, though the Commander looks decent as well.
What is the 58L-#### and Body #? Just wondering which of the 675 it is.

Mr Biggs, it does look as tho the 58L needs a new parklight housing. They break easily, I guess. But, nos housings(and the Packard letters on the hood) seem to be about the least difficult to find '58 Packard- specific body parts. After that......[:0]

Both the parking lites are in the trunk. I DO need one taillight body as one is cracked. Serviceable, but cracked.:D

The identical tailight/backup lite lenses are shared with the 55-56 Detroit-built "Clippers" and 57's built in South Bend. Can't say for sure about the housings, themselves. But, I'd guess yes. Some used, but not cracked, housings from a 58 sold for about $160 each several months ago on Ebay.

Yes, the taillight body's the same too. Sad thing is, I sold a pair to some cuss-tomizer sort a couple of years ago.[V]

Nice find. That paint job has a different approach to the add-on headlight bulge on the fender- dont disquise it, make it stand out. As 52-hawk mentioned above, this design seems to take time to grow on person, but it does.
I see an old econovan in the background. Dont see those much in the rust belt anymore.

There is a '56 Packard tailight housing up for bids on EAY, item #4628014674. Be advised that bids can get very competitive for these--money seems to be no object for the guys who just HAVE to putty them onto their '49 Mercury Mud Mobiles or whatever. [:0]
