View Full Version : Here's Hoping the Phone Doesn't Ring

Had a weak moment today. I'm sitting at the coffee shop, minding my own business this afternoon, and they tell me I have a phone call from someone wanting to talk to the owner of the red Studebaker truck parked outside the coffee shop.

I answer the phone, and this guy introduces himself and says, "My boss has been seeing your truck around town, and he wants to buy it. What's your price?"

I stammer around for a minute, and say, "I haven't thought about it." "Well, he wants the truck, and he has the money, if it's as nice as it looks, and the price is right."

I ponder the fact that I have an extra car in the fleet, just to be able to keep both Studes off of the icy roads, etc. That's an extra cost. The 9N sits outside under a tarp, and deserves to be inside. Trying to keep two Studes driving and show-ready is wearing me down. If I had a later model truck, I could sell the extra car, and reduce insurance, tag, and related costs. I wouldn't worry about weather, dents, dings, etc. So, I shot him a price, and am now hoping he doesn't call back. It might be the right thing to do, but it doesn't feel right at this moment.

Think long and hard about this one. I still regret selling my 58 Plymouth, my 60 Catalina, my 69 Coronet........

Dave - I know that type of decision is difficult, but you can always get another. In fact, I would sell you my truck for probably less than you offered yours up for. They are similar, but not identical. It is an SDC International second and also fairly close to you, until I ship it up here. Mine is a 350/350/AC (I don't remember if G has A/C). Or as an alternate, maybe the guy interested in yours would like mine.

You would never get a call if you were in that coffee shop with a white Silverado parked out front :D.

We'll see how it unfolds.

Just remember, Dave - if he wants it badly, then give it to him badly. (to ease your pain, of course)

May you have the same conversation, Curt! :D I just become too attached, I reckon. Some come, some go, but these two make such a lovely couple....

Boy oh boy, you remind me of the time, a few years ago, I put my '59 Lark Regal Hardtop up for sale. I advertised in the newspaper and got a few calls. One lady in particular wanted the car but asked if we could go for a ride. As I was driving her around the neighborhood, I started thinking, "what on earth am I doing. I don't want to sell this car". And I realized then that I really loved that car. Fortunately, she didn't come across with the money and I kept the car. I have now owned it for 15 years and am not parting with it. In fact, my 25 year old son said that he wants it whenever I don't. I guess he'll get it after I die.
