  • official paint colors

I recently bought a 51 commander. I am going to restore. I found a website that provides the colors of that year, but the codes are not transferrable to the paint colors of today. The paint guy said to get a 'conversion table' to the metals of today. does anyone know what he is talking about? how can I get it so I can get some chip samples?

Many of the Studebaker vendors sell chipsheets but, after 55 years the colors on the sheet may have darkened or lightened.

If you can find an area on the car that has not been exposed to the elements (firewall or inside trunk) you can have a paint supplier use a scanner to find the closest current match. If the formula for that match calls for metallic or pearl additives and your paint did not originally include it, simply have it mixed without the additive.

The shop that will be doing the painting should be able to have their supplier do the scan at no charge.
