  • Here's the 16 year old Stude nut!

This is me with an Avanti me and a friend looked at. The car is a R2 with 4-speed. I finally found a way to load a pic, by using JDP's website. Works great!

I bought my first Studebaker when I was 15. A 60 Hawk with a spun
main bearing. I paid 550 bucks for it. I first started working on
Studes when I was around 12 or so. First main project was getting the
hollow dowel pins out of a used block undamaged for my dads 64 GT.
It was the first herdle that I figured out how to beat, and became
the ideal that nothing is impossible. You learn a lot about yourself
when you take a non-running car, and get it back on the road. I drove
that Hawk throughout highschool, and for years after. Unfortunately
fate reared its ugly head, and almost 10 years to the day I bought it,
it was totally by an extended cab pickup truck. A word to the wise,
in driving, NEVER take another drivers motion that the road is clear!

[8D] Cool beans, Matthew! How many of us would like to have had an Avanti on our 16th birthday? [:I] Go for it! Cheers. BP

The Avanti isn't mine, but I wish it was. All I have is the 63 Daytona and a rough 52 Commander HT. My Grandma is the only Avanti owner in my family...

That's my Daytona, a dusk BTW. I got my new trunk mat today, THANKS JDP!!! Tomorrow, strip the interior. Maybe finish up the long delayed brake work and put new exhaust on too.

Get that brake and exhaust work done before you worry about the interior. I would suggest taking that front plate off before you head north for a meet <G>.

I've not got the interior yet, and it'll be the last thing I do. But I like having parts being already ordered, it's a good feelin'.[^]

                              Matt,
That '63 Daytona looks pretty good from here. Is it as nice as the picture indicates? I would say that at your age, you're well on your way to being a big collector and the knowledge to go with that.
