  • new to studebaker, looking for parts

I believe I have a 49 commander, it is a 4 door sedan and may be a regal deluxe, haven't figured out how to tell that yet. It is missing the hood and drive train, my big concern is availability of a hood, does anyone have any good places for a newby to look. Thanks.

There are several sources online - (SASCO, Studebaker International, and others). The best spot to start is the Online Vendor List at http://www.studebakervendors.com/. I would also highly recommend joining the Studebaker Drivers Club. For $27.50 per year you get a great monthly magazine with tips, articles, and news as well as the pride of being a member of the largest marque car club in the world.

If you could give us the body tag info from the metal tag on the engine firewall passenger side and the VIN from the plate on the front driver's doorpost we can tell where it was produced and what the trim level is.

I recently learned that my little town of Crowley, LA had a Stude dealer called Moore and Stossel. I'll try to dig up some info on it. Kevin in the Stoogebaker

You can always delete your own posts, Kevin. Just click on the trash can at the top of your post. No biggie either way.

BTW, there's two Commanders of that vintage for sale here in California. One's a Starlight coupe that's too nice to part out but the "parts car" that comes with it has all that you'd need to replace what's missing on your '49 Commander. The seller want's about $2K for both and the Starlight coupe could be made to run with little trouble. Good solid body but a totally trashed interior.[V]

                          Welcome to the forum.
You would defintly benifit from joining your local SDC chapter,as the shipping on large items as you need will be a killer.
Someone in your chapter just may own,or know somone local who has the parts you need.
                          Best of luck.
