  • Avanti tires

I have just purchased a 1963 Avanti from my mother it has been in storage for 30 years and I have completely rebuilt the motor and supercharger now I am looking for options for the tires or wheels or both. can anybody give me a modern replacement for the original tires that came on the car or maybe even a good place to buy aluminum wheels and radial tires. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank You! Tim

If you run a search on this site you should find a lot of options. As far as original size tires go I have found 215/75s to be closest to the original height. If you get aftermarket wheels make sure they have the right offset. You can run a much wider tire if you measure everything correctly. I am running 255/60s on the back of my Hawk.

I run Perelli 215/75's on Ford 15X6 rims. The look is very stock, the ride is great and the car handles nicely.

I noticed an ad for 15x6 rims in Turning Wheels, claimed they would fit a disc brake car, which is what caught my eye more than anything. So you might check there. As to tire size, I wouldn't know what'd work best.

I'm going to be putting new tires on my 63...sooner rather than later.
I want to keep the car's stock wheels.
Anyone care to recommend a brand or model of 215/75s that looks the part treadwise and whitewall (1" to 1.5") wise?

About the only way you will find that whitewall width on a radial is with Diamondback, pricey, but good. Try http://www.widewhitewalltires.com/index.htm

I would suggest a 70 series tire over a 75, the shorter sidewall will
help in steering response, but not adversely affect ride. 6 inch wide
wheels will improve things all around.
