Ford automatic traney 1963 Studebaker type: Engine warm, in what gear to read dip stick?

  • #2
My 53 manual for the automatic transmission indicates to check the oil level with a warm transmission in low gear. Don't know if there was a change in procedure over the 10 years. Good Luck.

Check the fluid level with the tranny fully warmed and in "D". That means with the parking brake on and wheels chocked or better yet, with someone stepping on the brakes as you check it. Engine at idle of course.
Don't make me describe to you what the interaction of a tree and a creeping car is like. You can get pretty frantic trying to get inside the car as it rolls off without you![xx(]

No deceptive flags to prove I'm patriotic - no biblical BS to impress - just ME and Studebakers - as it should be.
