  • Little thingy on top of coil

Looks like a condensor of some sort. Little round cylinder that mounts to top of coil bracket.
    What is it's function?

It IS a condenser, one part of the radio noise suppressing equipment that used to be installed on most cars. It has to be connected to the 'hot' side of the coil; if connected to the distributor side, the engine won't run.

Hmmm, "little thingy", I looked through the Stude manual front to back but I could never find that term used.....ha!

They also have those "thingy's" on the wiper motor and alternator and they're all different values. I think the one on the coil is 5Mfd. It was said that you shouldn't mix them around, as the value was specific to the application.
