Other then a wiring problem, it's either the tach or the sender. If you have a standard Hawk without a Avanti engine option, the sender wil be a small brass box mounted under the drives side of the dash.

If you can get your hands on the January 1980 issue of TW there is an excellent article in there. I wish I had a scanner because that's one of those "gems" that ought to be online. (ASSuming, of course, SDC and the author would be cool with that.)

Chuck, welcome to the '64 GT Club! I can't think of where I've seen the wiring diagram for the tach, but you can go here http://studebakerparts.com/ and look at how the Avanti tach was wired. An R series Hawk would be the same. People who have more experience than I, have told me that the problem is never in the dash unit, it is always the sender that is burnt out. The exception to that is that sometimes people don't connect a ground wire directly from the tack to the metal behind the dash, but that will usually only cure a tach that is functioning erratically. In other words if it is not registering at all, then it is most likely a disconnected wire or bad sending unit. For a new sender, try http://www.myersstudebaker.com/. Jon Myer and his son are most knowledgeable about the installation of that item. Let us know how it works out.

Actually, the Hawk/Lark wiring and sender is only the same for Avanti powered cars. The wiring diagram for the sender come with the new repro unit.
