    dont know if you guys know yet but the factory in detroit burned down last night. what a shame. blue skys fellas

    I heard that on the news. Very sad. So long to another piece of Studebaker and American History.

      I live in the Detroit area and no mention on the news suggested it was the Studebaker plant. All that was said was that it was a 'historical' building. I'm disappointed that I didn't get to see it for what it was.

        My Rockne's womb is gone?
        Actually, if what I've read is correct, Studebaker sold the building in 1928, when they bought Pierce-Arrow, and the Rockne was assembled in the old Model T plant across the street in 1932 and 1933.

          I understand that it was originally an EMF plant. The floors were made of wood and probably burned very quickly.
          Another piece of our history is gone. Another building right near this one is the plant where the Model T Ford was originally built. I think it wasn't affected though.

            In the news section of this SDC site, there is a story (and pictures) about the fire and it does mention the Studebaker connection.
