Started color sanding on Friday. We'll block sand with 1500, then 2000, then two different polishing compounds.

Here's how it looked today...

It just seems WRONG to make that paint dull that was as shiny as a new car (with about the same amount of orange peel):(.

The doors need to come off to install the new front of door rubber, so we took them off at this point. Easier to color sand and buff with them horizontal.

I sort of dreaded doing this based on prior door removal experiences on 40-50 year old cars. It usually involves impact drivers, torches, drills, penetrating oil, cursing, and several days/door. We had both of these off and on the saw horses in 15 minutes [:0].

Man, you are doing a lot of work. I guess that is what it takes.

It is strange making it all dull..
But the thrill of the buffer when it brings out the shine.....
OOOoooohhhh..

Well, obviously, this car was very well cared for. That's a plus for you as you don't have to do a frame off on it. Yet you'll have largely the same results.

Keep us posted as to progress.

Use Nevr-Sieze when you put the doors back on. That way the NEXT guy to paint it will have the same pleasure.;)

I'm needing that right about now. We finished the sanding tonight and we'll lay the buffer on it tomorrow. Can't wait :D
