I just aquired 3, yes 3, 1953 Commanders. 2 are decent, the hubby is making a race car. The other is mine and it has the "Continental Kit" on it, I've never seen a Studebaker with this, but it was done fairly decent. The fenders are under it and also in great shape, the whole car is actually a gem, it was an Okie but a friends neighbors had it since 96, plates still 96 okie tags....anyway, getting sidetracked, My question is:
Can anyone email me and tell me more about this continental kit situation, i'm ready to chop it off and start fresh, but i also wanna sell it in a couple to upgrade to a hard top, should i keep it on? is it more valuable? is are these silly questions? I'm sure, but I would appreciate your input. Thanks

Kristin, congrats on the Commanders!:D[8D] Not just one, but triplets? Neat.[8D] How's about some pics?

As for me, it's not my cup of tea. The cars where the kit is done right look very nice. I prefer the extended fenders. The others look like someone hung the spare on a shelf out back. Kinda like the way they do on RVs. makes it look tacked on, or tacky, take your pick. It's ok for an RV to look a little dorky. It's not for such an elegant car as these.

In my opinion the contintel kit really takes away from the beautiful body lines on the 53-54 CK.

You know, I remember a friends T-Bird that had a Connie. They had wrapped the bumper around it instead of extending the bumper and adding the typical shelf. Looked worlds better than anything else I've ever seen.
