Yank off the 3rd brake light, and the continental kit thing (it looks bolted on) and this is a nice looking GT Hawk..
(Front bumper guards are in the wrong place, aren't they?)
(But I dispute the 1% comment)

I'm learning that words like "top 1 % " or "finest in the country" drives up the bids. Honesty is always the best policy, but it sometimes costs you money with the bidders that don't know any better. :)

I guess I don't know how to figure cubic inches. I don't think a 289 bored .030 over is 304.whatever. I always thought .060 was about 15 cubic inches. Of course I might be wrong. I'm to old to remember the formula.

Nice catch, it's more like a 294 then a 304.

You know John, I looked at the first couple of pictures and wondered what you were talking about, I mean it is a nice looking car. Then I got to the side and rear shots with the continental kit and I immediately agreed with you, it certainly is not the way I would have done it, either.

Interesting. I could deal with the Connie kit (by using a wrench :D ), but what the heck did they do to the dashboard???

Different tastes are one of the spices of life...

I think the car's pretty cool as it is!

But then again, what do I know? I like mucus green Larks- wagons, no less...[:I]

This vehicle would never fit in my garage with that backpoarch.
Also, the BUY NOW price shows almost $27K. Bet the Reserve is close to that figure. Too much $ for me. My bid would be a max of $ 18K. Just my opinion.

Quote roadsterrat, Las Vegas, NV: "OK, we give up! Everybody who ever owned a Studebaker thinks he is the only expert in the world. Get a life! The text says timing chain instead of gear. We know that - and we hope most Stude people do, too. Also, the 0.030 overbore takes the displacement to about 294, not 304 CID. Also, we forgot to mention that the ignition is Chrysler HEI. Those who want to nitpick the car are guys everybody in SDC knows - they have had a rustbucket in their driveway for 30 years and never built the car, just talked about it. If you want to buy a great Studebaker GT Hawk, not talk about it, this is a very, very nice car."

OK, I get it, we are people who think we are the only people in the world that know about Studes. and we just "talk about" fixing up Studes...now I get it! Well if he "knew" all this stuff, it's funny he never SAID IT!! [xx(][xx(]

I think the general consensus is that's it's a very nice car, but opinions are divided on the custom touches. We always point out factual errors in ebay listings just to keep the history correct and I've had to correct mine on occasion i.e. Jeff picked up the bumper guards mounting, that might save someone else from using the car as a guide. I missed the timing chain mention myself, but I'd hope most of us would no better, although the bidders might not. Some of the members love the custom stuff, some not so much. It a discussion forum, we're discussing.:)

It might not be how I'd have done it [not a big fan of continental kits] but its really a pretty nice looking car. If you actually drove the car that third brake light might come in very handy.

After the very first picture of the car, I had an idea, has anyone ever made a custom gt wagon? I am thinking same front clip of course, and then extending the roof, but using the same c pillar and roof line as the regular car, mabeye a 2 door hardtop wagon.

Sounds like something our resident "Graphics Program Expert" Matthew, could do very well! Cool idea, I think I might have seen a Custom '58-'60 T-Bird Wagon that would look simular. [^]

What are those valve covers? I'm in love with them! ...and does Edlebrock still produce the Performer intake manifold for 'Studes?

Greetings, All,

Just one more piece of misinformation in the listing. Bet he can't find any documentation for an Edelbrock Performer intake manifold for a Studebaker V8. The lister puts out a list of incorrect info on a very personal custom car and then gets all huffy because he is called on his incorrect listing info. He should know he is liable for what he says he is selling. Buyers have sued for less.

Is that a '56 hood scoop? Don't remember them on the GT Hawk?

thnx, jv.

He mentions the scoop and I think he confused the carb with the manifold. He's listing the car for someone else, so minor mistakes like the manifold are certainly understandable.

Yeah, they are sweet, aren't they? I just ordered me a set today, along with a chrome oil breather and a chromed air cleaner. I think that Edelbrock performance manifold is pure unadulterated nonsense, myself. He is probably referring to the Edelbrock carburetor that's on it.

Hope I don't get beat up by the 'purists' amongst us.

In my h.o. definitely a prime example of where a wheel kit does not belong. It has taken a fine car and made it into a downtowm slums pimp mobile. I dont't know that I would have the patience to get wrenches out, perhaps an air grinder with a cutting wheel, or maybe a cutting torch...
