  • May 16th with the "Lawn-Lark"

[8D] Today was the first day the Lawn-Lark got to offically race for points since it was rebuilt. It was a good day for racing, and eight tractors showed up. I know that dosen't sound like much, but that's a lot for this race track! We race on a 140' high banked and paved race track built just for these things! If you are in the South Bend area and would like to watch the lark in action, our next race in June 6th. The track is located at Granger lawnmower place off of birch and anderson road in Granger Indiana. Basically a foot step away from South Bend. In fact, if you are part of the "Michiana Cruisers" and go to the pizza king on Saturday nights, it's literally around the corner. Check it out! It's very fun and entertaining even if you don't like oval track racing. (You can also tell your friends that you have been to a modified lawn tractor race) Here are some pics of the Lawn-Lark:

The Lawn-Lark did very well for its first time out this season. It almost won the semi feature.[B)]

I easilly could, BUT... The limit for engine size is that the engine must start out as a 9hp BLOCK. Every other modification after that is legal with a few exceptions like they can't run on straight alcohol and you must have a mufflet. (So no lake pipes.[)]) Right now we all have Tecumseh engines, but when I eventually wear it out I will probably put in a Briggs & Stratton. Hey, if you supply me with a running 9hp Onan engine, Ill put it in![8D]

No, 8 tractors. The advantage I had is that with every race I ran in, I always finished in the top ten!

Looking good Chris! If you want a heavy duty engine, get yourself an old Kohler like those used on early Cub Cadets and John Deeres in the 1960's. Unfortunately they weigh a ton but you could probably turbocharge them without them blowing up. Good luck this <s>mowing</s> racing season.
