  • "My neighbor had one of those Ramblers."

Friday at the swap meet. As drivers of Studebakers, we could use a variety of such plates to declare what our cars "ain't".

My 59 was been refered to as a Nova?? Mercedes???
    And a Nash/Rambler.
But when I tell them it's a Studebaker the final word is always sweet, cool or awsome car. When I start it and the distinctive sound of a Stude V8 is heard it always gets the thumbs up.
    Who could ask for more!!!!!

I've seen that vehicle a couple times before, and the first thing that comes to mind is:

      Remember kids.....
      1964 Studebaker Commander R2 clone
1963 Studebaker Daytona Hardtop with no engine or transmission
      1950 Studebaker 2R5 w/170 six cylinder and 3spd OD
1955 Studebaker Commander Hardtop w/289 and 3spd OD and Megasquirt port fuel injection(among other things)

        Lets see...
The other day my '40 was a '41 Chebby, and a '40 Ferd. I guess the big "S" in the center of the grille dosen't mean much, or the SDC grille badge.[V] But that's kind of rare. Many people actually do recognise it as a Studebaker when I drive it around since it was made here. They just almost NEVER can guess the year.[?]

At one parts store while I was shopping for a 3EE battery the young man at the parts counter asked, "Who made Studebaker cars?"

I replied. "Studebaker was an independent company and made the cars and was making buggies and wagons over 150 years ago.

He replied, "Yeh, but who made Studebakers?"

          That has happened to others.

NAPA had a 3EE on the shelf.

"Funny" story about that Lark- it was sitting right at the front of the corral with a big 'For Sale' sign in the window when we walked in. There was a couple looking at the car and were on the phone inquiring about it. I walked up just in time to hear the wife say to the husband, "No, it's not this car for sale, just one like it"[}] That's a sales technique I've never seen- post a nice item you want to keep at a sale to generate phone calls for something else you DO want to sell[)]

You would be amazed with how many people argue with me that Studebaker "never made trucks"! As we stand in front of mine at the gas station.

I hear it to this day. "Oh, yeah, my grandfather had a Rambler..."

I know its a teaching opportunity, still, I want to call them idiots. Better to bite my tongue and go to that special happy place...

I once had a man try his best to sell me a Rambler. He couldn't understand why I wouldn't buy it because he knew I liked Studebakers! NT

I have a few people that have to look to see my truck is a Studebaker, but most just say they don't see many Studebakers anymore, as far as a Rambler goes, My sister drove a 59 Rambler Station wagon that was pink with pink and black interior. It was anice car, I had a$50 bullet nosed Studebaker convertible when I was 16, My dad bought a new 64 Daytona 4 dr. That was a nice car.

I've had a few people stop by and wanted to know what year T-BIRD I had, one fella wanted to argue that Packard was a division of GM.

I get asked about my "Rambler" quite often, when referring to my '65 Cruiser. I had a guy one time look at the Champ and say that he hadn't realized Rambler made trucks. I often get asked what year Dodge the Champ is. My '59 Lark was often called a Mercedes. Also Rambler.

We have a couple in our chapter that has a beautiful '56 Power Hawk. Several years ago on one of the road rallies the chapter has held over the years one of the participants was hopelessly lost. He asked a fellow at a little country store if he had seen any Studebakers go by. "No, but there was a real pretty red and white Jaguar that just went by." Of course the Power Hawk is Red and White and that is what he was referring to.

In my years as a high school counselor,1970 - 2001, I had pictures of several c/k Studes on my wall. The most common guesses by the kids was Thunderbird and Jaguar. Probably fewer than 6 kids new they were Studes.

I am not as offended by my car being called a Rambler as my son is. He drives a rambler.
