View Full Version : One of the factory R3 Avantis is missing

I have heard three different stories about the location of factory R3 Avanti #64R5532. It is in Georgia, Long Island NY or Los Angeles. The last story includes the detail that the owner does not know what he has.
There is agreement that this Avanti's engine was replaced soon after it was first purchased with a different R3.
This Avanti was originally delivered to Vauxhall NJ and is a turquoise four speed.
If I can locate this factory R3 Avanti and confirm the location of 64R5394 I will know where all nine factory R3 Avantis are currently located.

I'll look around in my Studebaker Coral and see if it could be a "Stray in the Herd".

Over the years I have heard that there is a R-3 in a garage in Oakland but the owner passed away 10 years ago and no one has been able to get in the garage to see it, the house sits on a steep drive way and at the top is a R-2 Avanti also been sitting that long, it needs to come down the drive just to open the door to get at the other one inside only way in, but with no brakes and coming down a drive that is about 45% slope is a little tricky and family is in no hurry to do any thing, I need to talk to them again and see what can be dome...bob

A few years ago I remember seeing an ad that had been placed on CL about a Turquoise 4-speed R3 (I believe) that went missing in the Northern California area. Stolen from a shop that was working on it. Don't know if anything ever came of it...

Pretty sure it was stated to be an R3, maybe someone else remembers seeing the ad???

Tom Kazale has the gold #64R5546. You are the first one to say he also has 64R5532.

64R5532 was the second turquois four speed factory R3 Avanti. Originally it was sold in Vauxhall NJ. We know where the first turquoise R3 is located.
