plating the grill on a 61 hawk

I am going to send the three grill parts out for plating, inside the squares there is flaking, will the plating process eliminate this and does the grill have chrome all over it or just around the outer edges. Has anyone had there grill done and by who and how much was it?

Most platers won't do much with pitting on the inside of the square mesh unless you are willing to spend a fortune.

The '56-61 Hawk grille weighs a long ton and is pretty much bulletproof unless you rear end Mr. Biggs old Champ in a high speed collision. This solidarity means there are dozens of them for sale at any given time. The Hawk sheet metal rusted into dust and the grille was still standing there. Rarely a week goes by when there is not one on eBay. A bit of judicious shopping will find a useable one for less than 1/4 the cost of rechroming yours. If you want show chrome without any interior pits, I wouldn't want to know how much it would cost.

There are plenty of Hawk grilles out there for way less than plating charges. I think I have two or three here......somewhere.

Wasn't the inside of these areas actually painted silver? Like on the 55 center grill section, the chrome plating won't "throw" into these semi hidden sections ? I think the copper and nickel will but not the chrome.

It wasn't painted inside the squares, but the plating wasn't polished either.
