transmission mount

I installed a 700R4 into a 55 president thinking that I would make a new cross member. My concern is the motor mounts are all the way forward with most of the weight and stress being put on trans mount. I may be over thinking this, but now is the time to find out. Does the frame structure of this car need the old cross member or can I toss it. If I keep it I will have to modify it to clear trans.

It needs it. You can always get a universal 1 1/2" tube type from Summit to add to the rear but don't bolt the mount down too tight.
