NORMAN, Oklahoma -- Cleveland County detectives discovered that at least three Cleveland County residents were involved in the theft and fraudulent acquisition of vehicles to be sold as scrap metal.

The investigation began when a Lexington man reported that he had sold a truck to another man, but the buyer never paid for the vehicle. Detectives learned that immediately following the sale, the truck was taken to a Lexington salvage yard and sold for scrap metal.

Detectives then discovered that more people were involved in obtaining scrap vehicles. The vehicles included two classic 50's model Chevrolet cars, a 1948 Hudson Hornet and a Studebaker pickup truck.

That's a Studebaker pickup?? Must be some one-off SuperDuty edition. ;)
If I was a thief looking to steal something for scrap metal, I would at least steal a truck with the rearend in it! Silly thieves....[8D]

$200 a ton will likely tempt more than just thieves to scrap cars. Not a good thing for preservation of those less popular models.

My son-in-law had a big old Chrysler with a 440 in it sitting at my shop. Scrap prices are so high that he yanked the big block and tourqflight and sold the rest. Made over $400. and got to keep the best parts. NT

Might be time to get rid of some of the parted-out cars at the shop? The black Daytona could go for sure.

We had the radiator stolen from the cottage Studebaker a few times - it was an easy $25 at the time. The local wrecking yard was alerted after the second one, and while he would not tell us who brought them in, no more were stolen.

It was a real PITA replacing rads even back at a time when there were a few cheap spares around.
