Carpet question

Hi all.

Does anyone know if the '51 models (Champion in particular), originally came with a "loop" or "cut" pile carpet, or both?

Stude Int'l sells carpet sets in both piles for $199.99 and John Poulos sells carpet sets for $240. Is JDP's a better quality than Stude Int'l? Is there anyone who has bought either and can give me an unbiased testimonial on appearance, fit, wear and tear, etc.?

Summer of '05 I was at a auction where a 40k mile '51 Commander coupe was sold. Everything looked original including the carpet. It was cut pile, greyish brown and very short. Looked a lot like the few scraps of carpet I saved from my '53. The pile on that stuff seems to be about 1/4" high at best. Its not like any carpet I've seen in newer vehicles. That '51 Commander was a real clean original car that had been in storage since the early 60s.

I think that the Champion came with a rubber floor covering . they were black from South Bend and grey from Hamilton.

I have no information on SI's carpets except to say he hasn't raised his prices in 2-3 years and I've had to. They have gone up about 20% for me. Let me know by e-mail how his look and fit if you buy them.

I have a 51 Champion Regal. It had rubber floor mats when I bought it in 1983. And I bought it from the original owner. And he didn't change anything

I believe the Regal Deluxe Champions would have at least had rear seat carpet if not full carpet. I have seen original Studes. that were rubber in front, carpet in rear. Probably not an issue now-days, because unless you have them custom made at a seat cover shop, you get what you get!

I just replied. the carpet has to be drop shipped anyway, and you could not get it made by York.
