It is sad, as I doubt there is much salvagable on this transaxle. I get the feeling the seller believes he has a little gold mine here, but I think he'll be looking for a buyer for some time. Shown is the full transaxle unit from a c. 1918 Studebaker Big Six car. And you thought the Pontiac Tempest introduced the transaxle concept in 1961![8D]
The Studebaker transaxle era history has been neglected, short as it was, as there have been no published articles in Turning Wheels on the subject.
The February meetings of our Greater Virginia Chapter-SDC, are for Show & Tell. Member Don FitzSimons brought his transaxle unit, same as the above, to Show & Tell this past Feb. 14th. He loaded it by himself in the back of his F-150 pickup. His is in much better condition. The thing makes a good load for a 1/2 tonner.
We do enjoy some rare and odd stuff at our Show & Tell's!![^][^]
