Mounting carb to manifold worries.

Set my afb on top the manifold,to find out it rocks a bit.first thought was the carb must be warped? is it fairly common to see this,I do have a stack of gaskets that came with carb,so do I mount it and not worry. thanks for advise!

Did you check the base of the carb to make sure there isn't anything on there, like leftover gasket?

Hey Chip, no this is all new re-built.set it on to see what for heat tube I will bend up.and noticed it is a little shakey.might not be a problem just never ran into this before.

Lay a straight edge across both surfaces. Like a 12 inch scale or ruler. I have had to lap a few manifolds in before with a big file.

Do some investigation before you go ahead and bolt it down. Carburators don't have a lot of give. If you snap one of the ears off, it will ruin your whole day.

Are you just setting it on top or are you dropping it over the studs?

My guess is that it's getting hung up on the studs.

If the carb doesn't sit flush on the manifold, find out why before trying to tighten the mounting nuts. I seriously doubt that the manifold is warped, but the base of the carb could be. Was the carburetor recently rebuilt or is it a used piece as there could be left over gasket material stuck to the bottom of the carb causing the problem? Bud

The key question is, exactly how much is a "bit"? 10 thousanths' irregularity, no problem; quarter-inch, problem.

For the effort it takes to correct, I would be sure to do so. You face a possible lifetime of vacuum leaks and/or snapped off carb ears. Not worth the risk IMO.
