One of the first things Egbert did was attempt to raise the morale of the SB employees by painting the entire factory, something that had not been done in a long time. Within 30 days of being appointed President of the Automotive Division he was on his way to Calif to see Mr. Loewy. While waiting in Chicago at O'Hare, he bought all the automotive magazines he could find. On the flight to California he sketched some rough drawings of the type of car he wanted. Loewy said when he saw them that he knew Egbert was an automotive man. It was from these drawings that the Avanti was born. Loewy hastily assembled his team, locked them up in a rented house in the desert outside of Palm Springs and the rest is history. His design team consisted of John Epstein, already an employee of Loewy Studios and a foremost airbrush artist, a tall lanky 19 yr old kid from the CA. Inst of Art known as Tom Kellogg and a washed up automotive designer, who had a drinking problem, Bob Andrews.

Bob Andrews was one of the finest dashboard designers there ever was, and did fantastic things with most '60's Studebaker Interiors. [^]

So I guess he retired to New York to collect Larks. This explains his frequent willingness to get together at any Hooters.
