  • 47 or 48 champion?

I recently bought a champion convertable which was in a barn for 50+ years. I was told by the seller that it is a 48, but after looking at pictures online im not sure if its a 47. Are there any differances in these two years that I could tell what I have. I'm new to Studebakers and appreciate any help. Thanks, Mark

"47 Champions have no horizontal(sp) bar(s) across the grills. "48's have one bar. "49's have two.

    1949

    1948

    1947 Needs a little work.

Another question, Its all original, very solid, no rust, top is excellant. I was parked in a barn in 1956, last inspected in 55. We pulled it out last month and it had about an inch of dust on it. What is something like that worth?

Nearly impossible to give an estimate without at least some pictures.
                Even then hard for some.

Without a title it's probably worth half what it should be. May cost a hundred or two to establish a legal title.

That blue business coupe may have a '48 grille, but it has a '47 hood emblem and the front tag says 1947.

Boy, do I feel stupid! All these years, I never knew the differences in the grilles of the '47 through '49 Champions. I should know better. Gary, thanks for pointing out those differences.
I've always felt that the Champion grilles of that era are nicer looking than the Commanders. Just my opinion.

It also has '47 bumper guards. And the split script on the lower nose is also '47 only.

                            Check the body tag.
                            6G is 47
                            7G is 48
                            8G is 49

Dash boards are different for each year, as well.

                            VIN will also help.

'49's also have a wrap-around front bumper as can be clearly seen in the top photo.
