  • See the 1963 Hi Po Stude Lineup

Feb 12th-14th, 2010, the Indiana State Fairgrounds, Indianapolis, IN will host the World of Wheels, ( http://www.autorama.com/casi/show/sp...dianapolis.php ) This is a class show with Ridler Award contenders, factory cars customs, etc. In conjunction with the World of Wheels, the Indy Road Rockets ( http://www.roadrocketsindy.com/ ) will simultaneously hold the '62 Motorama. At first, that may not seem very interesting for some Stude folks, but at the Motorama, with the help of many others mentioned below, I will try my feeble best to create a sort of tribute to the 1962 New York Auto Show. To that end, the display will include the R2 Avanti, the R2 Hawk GT, the R2 Super Lark, and the Champ. These cars will be all in one spot reminding folks of just some of the high performance offerings of Studebaker for 1963.

    Ted Harbit's 1963 Stude Tomato

    Matt Frushour's 1963 R2 Hawk GT

    Chuck Kern's Champ Pickup

    Jim McCuan's 1963 R2 Avanti

    1962 Motorama Flyer

We have a nice Studebaker banner, will be running a DVD with many of the period Studebaker ads and dealer promo's, as well as a few other pieces and items of interest. Several well known persons in the Studebaker world have said they will be in attendance. I hope many of you can come out, take a look and visit us. With the attention our Avanti all got by itself last year within the show, we are expecting a crowd this year checking out a whole flock of Studes.

There are many Elvis Presley impersonators in the world but wouldnt it be interesting to have a Sherwood Egbert impersonator at this event? Anybody out there look like Sherwood Egbert and have a period correct suit? No? How about Raymond Loewey? No? Okay, how about a Studebaker engineer with the old black rimmed glasses and a pocket protecter with mechanical pencil and scale inside it? [8D]
It sounds like a great event but I won't make it. Perhaps somebody can make a video of it to share with us? If not, pics would be good too.

One wee quibble...surely that poster ought to say "1963 or older", since a car show, at least back in the day, was always about "next year's model" and the introductions thereof??

At any rate...sounds like a very cool event.

Jeez, someone needs to tell Matt he needs to get some '63 GT HAWK WHEELCOVERS! [V]

That is a very nice ORIGINAL LOOKING R2 Hawk, making the '62 Lark Wheelcovers just stand out as WRONG. [xx(]

If they looked BETTER on the car like Teds do, (instead of those all White '63 Lark Wheelcovers he should have), they would be fine. [^]

I guess it is too late, but that is absolutely right! A "1962 Motorama" would definitely be about 1963 Automobiles! DA!

Unless it was held between Jan. and Aug. of '62.

I think it is a great idea. Thanks for doing the work to put it together, Jim.

Here's the right wheel covers for the Hawk...

Kits are available to change Matt's.

Matt does have the correct wheelcovers as well. Older pic. The car looks even better now, although I would be thrilled to have it in the condition he started with. The car will probably show with the Halibrands he has on it now.

I had the same idea about dressing as a Stude engineer, since a lot of folks at the Motorama dress in period clothing. I may still do it, but I have since gotten a little something for the guys who will be there displaying with me. It's a surprise, but we'll get a pic at the show and post it. I couldn't get any STP jumpsuits but this is probably more usefull.

Does Matt have the wrong wheelcovers still as well? And might he want rid of them (for a price, of course)? I think I know where there's a '62 Lark that could benefit...

I sold that GT to Matt last year. He has done a lot to it and detailed it to the 9's. It was a rust free California car that Sal found. I am glad it went to a good home. I was up to 9 Studebakers and they were getting neglected because I have a job and three kids to take care of also. By the way I am pretty sure the car is R2 Hawk #2 built. The engine and body number are very low.

To me Teds rear wheel covers look wrong, his car, but wonder why he doesnt run poverty caps at the drags, less weight and unsprung weight. He has no explaining to do for performance.

Jim, looks to be a great show. Sorry I don't live closer as i would be there. Hope it doesn't snow and know that many males will take their Honey's there to celebrate Valentine's Day . Please walk and talk and tell the Studebaker story.

I can't believe no one is knocking the Avanti pic with the wrong mirror. BTW, it has been corrected, lol.

Jim, the car takes your breath away and makes the mirror not worth the mention. In my mind it's not an issue.
