I've seen the terminology "4 X 5 color transparency", before. Silly question... What are transparencies, and what were they used for? LH

That artwork sure exaggerates the width of those Packards, doesn't it? Reminds me of those famous and beautiful artwork ads that Pontiac used throughout the '60's.

              Thanks for posting this Richard!

Perhaps this is where Pontiac got the idea for Widetrack! Come to think of it, John DeLorean did work for Packard before moving to Pontiac....

I have recently learned that we can make all our cars, bikes, houses, people, well, everything look low and wide by simply buying one of these wide screen TV's. I hate it. But, boy does that Packard look good !!! John

                      Hi

Thanks Richard for posting this for our enjoyment. Love the "artist license" taken with the proportions. Lower and wider always makes a design look much better.

This is an actual transparency held to light. I have this particular '56 Packard Caribbean transparency running on Ebay at this time. Basically it is a large slide (like a 35mm) but without the cardboard border. They worked better for brochures and the like since they showed actual colors. Unfortunately after 50 or so years they have a tendency to turn magenta.

If things look low and wide on your HDTV, you need to adjust the picture format size. My sister has her HDTV adjusted to make standard definition satellite broadcast programs fill the entire width of the screen making people look short and wide. I can't stand that! I set the picture to 4:3 format size so that everything looks proper but she changed it back to 16:9 format because she wanted the entire television screen filled up! I give up! [B)]
