OK, I'll take some STP: Scientifically Treated Petroleum (oil treatment) with some Sticky Toffee Pudding on top please!

You can omit the Soggy Toilet Paper though!

But I know the "Studebaker Technical Products" (automobiles) is wrong, and also the "Studebaker Packard Corp." ! [:0] Wherever they get this stuff, they are full of it! :(

I think the Scientifically Treated Petroleum corporation should have named themselves Super Thick Oil Products. It gives a better description of what the product is, but I suppose 'STOP' is not a good term to associate with engine longevity....

STP was scientifically treated petroleum. It was later called scientifically tested products when the product line expanded.

Here in West Virginia years ago, it was commonly refered to as "STOP THOSE PISTONS". Never did ask why. Never used it.

You don't remember the one that was floating around about three years ago? To determine the viscosity of the product the German chemists suppposedly placed a certain sized screwdriver into a glass beaker of the stuff and timed the decent of said screwdiver to bottom of beaker.

That created the name Screwdriver Test Proceedure, which when translated into German sounded very important.

That is precisely correct.:D My Dad was a distributor for STP in Western NC in the 1960's. Must have sold a million cans. All the kids at school used to beg me to bring them the big STP decals. The STP co. reps called it either "scientifically treated petroleum" OR "scientifically tested product." There was also a great TV commercial from the 60's with the late Rocky Marciano and Andy Granatelli where Andy challenged the Rock to hold a screwdriver blade covered in STP between his finger and thumb. No one can do it. The stuff is too slick! I also balked when Dad told me they bought STP directly from the Studebaker Corp in the early 60's. Then he went to the old files and pulled an invoice from 1963 that clearly read: "STP - a division of the Studebaker Corp." I think the stuff sold for $0.79 a can back then and was cheaper by the case to auto dealers and service station operators. [8D]
