Today marks the 2nd anniversary of the arrest of Mike Kelley former CEO of Avanti Motor Corp, Cancun, Mex. He's still incarcerated awaiting Fed Trial and sentencing. The factory is still boarded up with those museum Avanti cars on the 2nd floor. I am really interested in the 86 Avanti GT white Escort race car.

"Mid-Ohio wishbone chassis car designed by Herb Adams. This car was the prototype for a planned 1986 Avanti GT."

Anyone have info on how we can acquire any of these vehicles from the museum area from the Fed govt?

Mike Kelley has been in jail longer than two years and will remain there for a very long time even after his trial whenever that happens. Some love him but many others hate him for what he has done. As for his Avanti adventures they were up and down. Ask those that were part of the last go round in Villa Rica what they think and the true story will be known maybe but then maybe not. BTW ask those that know about the move to Cancun from Villa Rica how much was destroyed instead of being moved, including the nine or so 4-door bodies that were there. Much of the inventory in Villa Rica never made it to Mexico.

The cars in the factory building in Cancun are under the control of the Mexican Govt and will remain so for a very very longtime. In fact I doubt if they ever see the US again. Sorry but he deserves what he is receiving.

I hear they're making a Mike Kelly piggy bank for christmas--it has a slot in the top to put the coins in, but no hole at the bottom to get them back out..Just like the Bernie Madoff one. (A lotta people got berned when he madoff with their money.)

Anyway you look at it, it's sad that the Avanti saga has to end this way. It casts an unfortunate pall over all Avantis and indirectly, Studebaker.

I hope the museum cars get sprung from Mexico...and end up with proper owners.

I might one of the few guys that made money off Mike by buying 6 of his cars. I should have been suspicions of him when I *****ed about a rust bucket GT I bought from him, and to just told me to keep it and take the money off another car. ( Now N8's car)Since it was not his money, I guess he played fast and loose.

[u]I have no experience in this area,</u> you understand, but I've always heard...the FEDERALES always enjoy seeing American greenbacks. They always seem to smooth out little, uh...mis-understandings. I wouldn't be surprised if the cars eventually "go missing."
