Spreading the word of Studebaker ...

I'd like to have a roll call here for those of age 41 and less that at least LURK here on a regular basis. (age 41, since we're fast approacing the 41st anniversary of the building of the last Studebaker)[^]

That is also one thing I've always wondered - how many other young Studebaker enthusiasts there are out there. In 50+ years how many of us will there be in the SDC?

I've kind of taken it upon myself to spread the word of Studebaker to my generation as much as I can. Not only by driving the Hawk around when I can, but by getting others involved. In high school, I'd bring my Lark in to shop class so we could perform oil changes. I'd also have accouncements in the morning based on Studebaker facts. Even all my art projects in art class had to do with Studes! I've brought my friends to SDC meets, and have at least one of them interested in a 50 Starlight, (again when he's out of college and can afford one lol).

Since attending the Automotive Marketing program in college, I've spoken to many of my professors about Studebaker, and have even gotten them to subscribe to Turning Wheels for our student lounge! Our program hosts the largest outdoor autoshow in north america every september, so I am going to plan an Ontario chapter Studebaker event planned around that weekend, in order to have a car show of Studes for the autoshow! (hopefully we can get some fellow American SDC members to come up for it as well! - what better way to show of Studebaker than at a college autoshow!).

Anyways, hope other young members have taken that upon themselves to do similar things, I'm sure we'd all love to hear about them!

Well, I do what I can. I drive an orange '59 pickup to high school everyday. Give people rides home everynow and then. Many kids at school have really taken a likin' to my old truck. Had a few offers.. (Not really a Honda guy, ya know. [)])
Everyone knows me as that crazy Studebaker guy, which doesn't bother me a bit.
I'll see about getting a pic sometime, of my truck amongst all the Hondas and Chevies...

You are spreading the Gospel about Studebaker! That's how I encourage our chapter - that we must be "evangelical" about Studebaker, it's cars, and it's history - if we truly want the club to grow and endure.

I'm 36 and I drive my wagon every day. Soon will have the 4dr sedan backup. Studebakers are the only cars I own. I take great enjoyment in seeing people look the old car over. Plus I get a kick out of my customers {acura} when they ask what I drive and I tell them a Studebaker.

Lol, there's a good chance I may be doing a co-op this summer at either BMW Canada or one of the dealerships. I'll be sure to bring the Hawk by and see what I can get out of everyone! =)

I wish I could only drive Studes, but the winters here would mean death. But - having the Firebird around for fun too doesn't hurt anything either. Hey - I originally bought it with the idea of converting it to a new Avanti some day! =P

Here we go again! Last October I started a thread on just this subject (in the google groups stude forum) and it drew a lot of attention. This is a good thing! We again talking about spreading the Studebaker word amongst the masses, but we must do more. Just yesterday we had officer elections in our local stude club and I brought this very subject up for discussion. I gave a brief and rough outline of what is needed to accomplish the recruitment of new members and possible ways to do so, while asking for ideas. Getting the name out to the general public is the first step that I thought was needed. Someone came up with the idea of a car show in the mall. I figure that's a good start. Getting more people into studes, and into our clubs is nothing less than a win, win, situation. It will make the vendors happy, and keep the value of our studes up. This is truly a grass roots initiative that we must get the ball rolling on now. A new stude membership is only $20! At our meeting we decided to add a membership to each scholsrship that we are giving out. This way the recipients will be able to remember who gave them the money in the first place. Being in my mid fifties, I can barely remember studes, so we have a challenge of getting the name out there to the younger crowd. It's a big problem of how do we get their attention away from the video games and cruising the malls. Another thing to consider is making the meetings, or planned activities family orientated and cheap. There are so many ideas out there that could be tried. I'm no organizer of such things, but I can help in other ways. It already seems like in this thread people are worried about carrying on the stude name and tradtions. Let's put our heads together and get the ball rolling!
