  • '57 President with $5884.00 windows

    Link to ebay Ad: http://tinyurl.com/y8kpuq4

The ad says it is a Commander 4dr., but it's body tag shows it's a VERY rare President Regal W6 body: "57H-W6-1892"

There were no Regal W6 Commanders 57B-W6, and these W6 Regal Presidents apparently were not sold in the U.S. or in very small numbers.
I wonder if it has "lost" it's 289 Engine over the years, so the owner thinks it's a Commander because of a Commander 259 engine. [:0]

QUOTE: "HAD ALL THE DOOR WINDOWS CUSTOMIZED (NEW) ALSO NEW ELECTRIC WINDOWS ON FRONT

AND HAVE REMOVED THE QUARTER GLASS'S COST $5884.00 TO GET DONE PROFFESSIONALLY"

But how do you remove rear door glass for $5884.00? [:0]
And how do you "Customize" a door window? [:0]

It should have a better pic of those rear doors, for that price, but from what you can see the L/R window frame does not seem to be modified. [:0]

This car apparently has had buckets of cash poured in, but little to show for it!
Nice start though, it is a Right hand Drive car, so it would be of no use in the U.S.

      Hi StudeRich,
remember, we got loads of real kooky cars in different parts of the globe. Not like in the US where all the factory assembled cars are quite common by comparison, right down to those common 31 roadsters.....
Believe it or not RHC or LHC cars drive just fine anywhere in the world, even when delivering the mail in the US.

      Regards
      Greg

Greg I know you are no longer here or in Canada, so you do not have to deal with it, but I know I would not want to attempt to drive that right hand drive, on the [u]right side</u> of the road, just too weird!

But anyway I still really want to know what those windows look like or what is sooooo special about them! [:0]

I guess I should go and have a look as it's in my home town, but I'm really not interested. As soon as I see the words 'Rare or very rare or only one in Australia', I loose interest, 'cause usually the owner has listend to a load of guff from some 'expert' By the prices he's quotes he didn't do much work himself, but I could do with the engine[8D]

            HI Rich,
I wouldnt sat that driving on the wrong side is wierd. It is just interesting. I seem to slot over without any trouble and can change gears comfortably with both hands now.
The older cars are a little better for opposite hand driving as you sit a little higher. Overtaking is always a bit of an adventure.

Remamber Europe is just over the water so my Studebakers get out a little to different countries during the year.

ps, those window do sound enticing....

It's a fairly common hot rod thing to eliminate the vent windows and install one piece glass. I'm guessing that's what he did...perhaps in all 4 doors. To have a pro shop do this, $5800 is not unreasonable. Especaially if that is AUD's at a time when the exchange rate to the US$ was not as good as it is today.

I don't know Dick, maybe they refer to front vent windows over there as "Quarter Windows" here that means REAR QUARTER. [:0]

The "W" body's do not have rear vent windows, just ordinary one piece glass, and remember ALL the glass was "customized"! [:0] [?] [?]

StudeRich is right, we called the front Vent Windows 'Quarter Glasses' down here. I had this normenclature problem when I was talking to some suppliers in the States looking for Quarter Glass rubbers for my '56 International - ended up a waste of time anyway, as the doors were made here with a different window design.

The reason I was looking for them in the first place was that the previous owner had removed the Quarter Glasses and installed a single window glass. Unfortunately the Quarter Glass frame was also the front window track, and postion of the pusher on the regulator couldn't be moved forward the window jammed when rolled up, so I had to reverse his work.

I've had to settle for second hand Quarter Glass rubbers as new ones just don't exist anymore.
