The Greater Virginia Chapter held their annual Christmas Party Saturday (12/12). For a number of years members have met for a social hour at Melvin and Glenda Wampler's beautiful home in Bridgewater, Virgina. How's this for home decorations?

All three of these beautiful Studebakers are Chester Bradfield's (former Turning Wheels printer)

During the social hour Frank Drumheller (Studelark) was presented a Studebaker watch, display case, and a great collage of photos by the chapter honoring his years of serving the chapter. For once Frank was speechless. After a social hour everyone caravans about 10 miles to the very rustic Bear Trap Lodge up in the mountains at the west side of the Shenandoah Valley.

After a huge, delicious dinner in the wood-fire heated dining rooms, everyone gathers for a Chinese gift exchange. Here are some of the people waiting. Notice Gary Hearn (Guido) at the extreme left.

Everyone brings a gift valued at $15 or less and all are placed in a pile on the floor. The participants are counted and sequential numbers totalling the number of participants are made up and placed in a hat. Each participant draws a number that determines in what order they select a gift.

The first person picks a gift and keeps it. The following participants also select a gift, but they have the option of exchanging their gift with someone who has already drawn. Once all the numbers have selected a gift, the first person gets to come back and exchange for any gift they want.

It is funny what things people want. This year it was a case of candy (M&M's etc.). Chester Bradfield got a gift that included a $5 bill and no one took it from him.

Bear Trap Farm was established in 1930 by two women who left their jobs in Washington, DC and moved back to nature. They have many pieces of memorabilia scattered about detailing the early years, including a number of black and white pictures. I saw one Saturday showing the building in its early years sitting directly in the middle of a field. As you can see, the area around the lodge is now wooded.

Absolutely nothing. In my haste to get there, I forgot to take my present. Now I have an extra Maitso '53 Starliner that I will need to do something with.

There have been times in past years when "exchanges" got a bit heated:D.
