In the late 80's or early 90's there was an article in Hot Rod magazine titled A Gentlemans Chop where they chopped the top on a 53 or 54? does anyone know the month and year of this article?
    Thanks

The first link in Jeff's post is our car. The original builder followed Dick Dean's article when he chopped it. Big difference was his article was about a hard top and the builder of mine adapted it to the coupe.

Jeff, if you have that article I would really like to have a copy of it to put in the car's heritage file. If you can scan and send it to p.dilling@comcast.net that would be wonderful!

Rene Harger had one sorta like this at Asheville a few years ago..
I have some pic's and was impressed (intimidated) by the amount of work needed around the vent window area...
Rene had GT Hawk headlight rims on his, too...
I'll look for the pic's in my file when I get home...

Bob, that's about as perfect (to my eye) a custom C/K as I've EVER seen. Anyone have any more pictures?? And what are those gorgeous wheels?? Any more info on this car would be great- it really wowed me[]

The owner died at 48?? Dang, that's how old I am currently. At least he got to build and enjoy his dream car before he paased!

Yes Fred did get to drive and enjoy this car, he got it when he was 14 years old, it was a 6 cly. Fred grew up in his dads body shop and at the time it was part of Ben Begier's Studebaker of San Leandro and did all the Studebaker repair work, since Berier's was a small dealership they did not have a lot of storage room so at the end of the year a lot of things got put in the trash and Fred would pull some out and take home thinking he would need it later or someone else might need it. in his lifetime Fred rebuilt and restored his coupe 3 times as he had a heavy foot and did drink to much some times, each time he fixed it he would change something on it, when he passed away the car was down and had a damaged front end with a bent frame his dad who had long since retired but still owned the shop building took it to the shop for one last Nelson repair I supplied the frame and it was put back together and repainted the same color at this time Freds Son Taylor was given the car , Taylor kept the car for a number of years and when he got in a bind and lost his house to County wide like so many other did. he did put the car on E-bay once but didn't make reserve and that is when he called me and asked if I was interested in the Blue coupe I said in a heart beat yes I would be proud to own your dads car and then my grandson Clayton fell in love with at first sight and now it will be his down the road, we do try and drive it now and then when he is here, I have known this car since 1968 when the club started, long live the chopped top little blue coupe...Bob

Sorry to hear of the loss of your friend but at least his car is in the hands of someone that appreciates it. After seeing the interior, I like it even more now! The supercharger is icing on the cake.

I used the article in "Custom Rodder" when chopping this car in 1992. I also talked to Dick Dean for some pointers. I do have the magazine. Email me if you'd like a copy.
