  • Flasher Unit

I wonder if anyone can help me in finding our where the flasher unit is located behind the dashboard. My car is a '59 Lark VI. I can't find it anywhere in the service manual.
    Many thanks.

If the flasher works, turn same on and follow the sound.

Since you have the shop manual, go to the body section (Body-General). In Instrument Board Assembly you will see a photo of the backside of the panel showing the round flasher.

it's behind the dash- just above your left knee... You will see the FUSE panel.. and the flasher is mounted there.

Guys, many thanks for your help. Dwain, I followed your advice and saw the page in my Shop Manual under Body-General and there is the picture.
For some reason, I was looking for the flasher unit in the Electrical section.
It always amazes me how much knowledge is available on this forum.
I feel sorry for owners of other vintage cars. I don't think that they're so lucky.

throwing it out there, is there any problem using a standard FLAPS 12v flasher unit on a 6v system... as long as the terminals are the same?

Other than the fact that it won't flash on 6 volts, none.

Do all late model Studebakers utilize the identical flasher unit?

Sure, all 12V ones do and most other cars of the '60's have the two prong flasher.

The flasher I wound up using on the 57 GH is an electronic one from NAPA and the number is 50-262-3. It is louder than the standard # 552 flasher. It is a few dollars more as well. 10.09.
