Does anyone know what is required to replace the seal for the gear selector shaft entering the transmission? Does it require dropping the pan or can it be done from the outside? This one is in my 1962 Hawk. Thanks.

I've done this a couple of times, but it's been at least a dozen years or more. Yes, it can be done by taking the pan off, but what is foremost in my memory of doing so is chasing that *@%**^##!!! detent ball and spring around the garage in the course of putting it all back together again!
Once you get the shafts out, the actual replacement of the seals is a breeze.
