  • Power brakes for suspended pedal Champ trucks...

Has anyone successfully added power brakes to their suspended pedal Champs? How'd you do it?

Years ago I put the booster and master cylinder from a '61 Cruiser on my '64 Champ- bolted right up. However, after a few months I went back to standard brakes as the power seemed awfully sensitive. '61 was kind of an oddball year brake-wise. They used a vacuum reservoir with the booster. I guess next year they decided it wasn't necessary. Maybe a later non-disc booster would work better (maybe a '63 or later and use the dual master cylinder too).

The question pertained to power brakes, not steering.

            D'OH!! Apparently, I can't read. [:I][B)]

As power brakes were a factory option, that would likely be the easiest to use. Guess that's why I incorrectly assumed we were discussing power steering - as that was NOT a factory option.

The 8E Champ trucks used the same (more or less) power booster mounted in the same location as earlier Champs(and C-Cabs).
On the left frame rail behind the gas tank. Course these were all single circuit systems.

I've already converted to dual circuit brakes, so a firewall mounted booster would be best. Maybe any of teh later boosters with a modified bracket will work?
