  • Stude in tow in Kettleman City, Ca. today. Who?

Spotted today in the In-n-Out parking lot:

Those wheels on the trailer look familiar...
The pickup had an Arizona plate, and the trailer had a California plate. The car had an SDC sticker on the windshield.

Also seen in the same parking lot:

It was being towed behind an RV. Kinda looks like a toy in this shot, but it is full size. Well, sorta.

Also pulling out of the gas station at the same time...

    What fun!

I dig the stude! That mini nomade is pretty neat too! Now, what is that car on the trailer? The black one. Its not a stude, so I don't know what it is,lol.

The black car is a Triumph----not sure of the year though. I wonder what car show they were coming from or going too (if any). Some pretty cool cars there.

I'm going to guess a '61 TR3 on the Triumph. As much as I like 2 door wagons, I don't care for that '57 wagon- not a Nomad. Too short. Looks like quality work, though. That roof looks perfect. Looks like a serious off road car, so it is what it is.
Is that a Rockne on that trailer? Gotta be someone from AZ on the Forum, don't you think?

Maybe it was John & Tracy they are from Arizona and they were in California. Just a thought.

No way that I would try to tie down a car with those 1" straps that are rated for 1000# (I do see the yellow strap). I sold a mid '20's Dodge touring car to a guy from Maryland last month and that was what he used. After I pushed it onto the trailer with a forklift and saw what he was using, I decided to make myself scarce. I did not want to be involved (or blamed) in the event it came off the trailer. To top it off, one of the straps had broken and his "fix" was to tie a knot in it. [B)]

By the way, it appears Ian got a good car.

                      Slightly off topic....
Anyone out there know about those shortened Chevy wagons?

Wasn't sectioning them a fad in the 70s?
I seem to remember seeing several like that.
I hadn't seen one for many years and was beginning to wonder if I didn't imagine the whole thing until I saw one a few weeks ago.

Wonder how many guys are kicking themselves for wrecking what would be a nice stock car today?
Did they use Nomads or did they cut 4-door wagons?
                      Always been curious about them.

The Stude on the trailer is a 1930 6-53. It is basically a rebadged Erskine, as Stude was phasing out Erskine production at that point.

Well, as to the ropes on the Stude, I think the owner is afraid the butterfly bonnet will come open whilst being towed. It could be that the latches are not too very secure or are missing. Also, since the red straps in the front are so slack, I'd say the driver just used them to position the car and left them there just in case (though I'm sure they could use a wee bit of tightening). There's nothing wrong with a bit of insurance.

As I remember the sectioned wagons adnc ars were usually 4 door cars, more readily available.

There is a yellow 55 in town that has been shortened. It is not a nomad (straight post) but that is about all I know about it. Steve
