  • Matthew's '58 and '59

'58 Commander sedan. 259 V8, auto. All original paint and unrestored. I'm the second owner. It was pulled out of a barn in January, '09 after a 35 year hibernation. My dependable daily driver.

'59 Scotsman pickup. This was my daily ride in High School. Currently getting a V8 transplant and a host of other stuff.

      Matthew,

I have a drivers side above the grille eyebrow. Send me your mailing address and I'll send it. Doesn't fit my '57.

My two uncles and the original owner (driver's door) pushing it out of the barn in 1994. The old man bought the truck in 1960 and drove it until 1974. Truck sat in the barn for 20 years.

Matt, great photos, thanks for posting!

You mentioned that the original owner of the truck bought it in '60, so it was a year old? Seems like there are a lot of Stude stories like that! A friend of mine from Wauseon, OH said they had a '64 or '65 Stude when she was a kid until she was a teenager and she was always embarrassed by it! Her Dad told her he bought it new at their local dealership called "Turnpike Travellers", when it was two years old!

I like your '58 also. There was a guy who worked at N&A named George who had a sedan almost just like yours, color and all. It had the 'toilet seat' trim on the trunk though. Ever see it?

Hey Bill. I never saw that particular car, but I have seen the "toilet seats" before. Sure glad my car doesn't have one.

I wasn't too clear about the truck. The guy that bought it in 1960 bought it as a used car from the local Buick dealer. How it ended up there at only a year old, I'll likely never know.

I had a full flow 289... Nothing "special". My uncle decided he wanted it worse than I did, so he bought a full flow 259 from a wrecked '58 3/4 ton and we traded. (Has A/C, truck bellhousing, etc etc). I just wanted a V8, he wanted more cubic inches.

Gotcha... I had thought your 289 was an R1 version, but I was obviously thinking of something else.
