Just got my copy of the Down Easterner and I had a comment about one of the COEs you posted a picture of. The green M Series COE is from my neck of the woods and I've seen it at numerous shows from Stude zone meets to Goodguys. It is everything you see in pics and more.

This info is second hand but from a reliable source. I understand Studebaker never made an M series COE and this truck is a total figment of the imagination of the builder.

Thought you might be interested to know that. Maybe you could post the picture so others could see. [8D]

This truck is... different to say the least. Not my cup of tea. I like the earlier version much better. Setup like this the truck has a cartoonish appearance to it. The truck does show excellent workmanship in the build though.[^]

My brother found the truck in 2005 in Missouri, bought it, and drove it home to Southern California. At that time the truck build was almost 10 years old and the builder was ready to sell it. The builder told him it was the result of mixing the parts of two M-5's with a small block chevy engine and tranny. He said the truck seemed solid and although built without any frills, seemed well done. The dash gauges did not work as promised on the drive home causing them to run out of gas a few times and they broke down once in New Mexico with fouled plugs. Since that time he has redone the interior, running boards, and bumpers.[8D]

Gee Jon those the Postal Service was on the ball this month. I put those things in the mail on Thursday afternoon! I have been out of town since Friday only getting back last night so just now saw this thread. It seems the full explanation of the truck, with better pictures than I had in the newsletter, have already been posted.

I knew this was a custom, but over the years I have seen many pictures of it and really have fallen in love with it. The group of COE pictures that I put in the newsletter, this truck included, were titled "Studebaker Cab Over Engine Trucks....Stock, Not-so-Stock, Concepts. I put it this way to cover all bases as some of each were included in the collage.

Sometimes as an editor you have a little space that you need to fill. This gives us some free reign in the creativity department. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I'd like to think that it worked this time.

The truck in question is a really nice piece of work. I would love to see it in person sometime.

Looks like an M series punched in the nose one too many times. The more I look at it, though, the more I like it. COE's as a whole are ugly mutts (save the 1930's Studebaker models, which are beautiful), but the "M" translates very well compared to Chevy, Ford, and the like. Wish Studebaker woulda built them... LH
