  • 63 Avanti R-2 timing missing pointer

    In attempting to check the timing I find there is no
    indicator plate (pointer) on the engine.
    Believe this is P/N 1557145 based on the parts manual.

    Has anyone out there have one for sale or can assist me
    in obtaining one. Have tried the usual sources?

    Thanks

    I needed one a few years ago and got one from Dave Thibeault.

    R engines have a plate ,not a pointer.

      I believe it's just a threaded bit ground to a point. If you have a lathe, or a bench grinder and a steady hand, you could probably make one from an old stainless bolt of the correct size.

        @Frank - d'oh! you're right, I didn't read the subject line well enough.

          I believe all of the R series engines had a timing tab on the front cover that used both holes. It lines up with the balancer . I may be wrong but it would nor be the first time.

            It is a degree marked plate, 0 to 24 degrees to line up with the mark on the vibration dampener.

            If you had the dimensions, you could make one.

              Thanks to all for the responses, it is the plate I need and I will
              try Dave Thibeault.
