  • hood flyup on a 52?

I've seen at least a dozen posts about the hood problem on 53 and up coupes/hardtops. The underhood picture in the last one pretty much looks just like underhood on a 52. Same latch, same dangling hook.
I have a 52 I'm finishing up, and have never driven it. 52 has a hood release cable. That should be my safety, shouldn't it? Doesn't a 53 have a release cable?
If I should make a safety, I'll do it now, but I don't know if this was a problem in 1952.

The Hawk types are the ones that have the problem. You can go to the hardware store and buy a clinch pin that inserts in a drilled hole through the hood pin for peace of mind if you are worried. Costs about $2.00.

The '52s hoods area so heavy in the front, it would take quite hurricane to open it. For some reason, probably shape and weight change, the later hoods were the ones susceptible to blowing open.
