  • history of 2r17a studebaker fire truck

Hello I am the proud owner of a rare 2R17A chassis Stude fire truck that worked for the Neshanic Vol Fire Co from '51 to '72 when it retired and was then brought over to the UK to go into an american diner. I am looking for any old photos, memorabilia, stories, or anything relating to our stude.

if anyone can help I would be very grateful.
    Thanks

Oh, man! We gotta have pictures!! This is wonderful.

You can get some more info on your truck by contacting the Studebaker National Museum and getting the production order for it. studebakermuseum.org

It'll be great if someone here can help you with the use history of this truck. Congratulations.

You can see some really great pics of our truck at www.thestude.com. I really do hope someone might be able to help. We are also looking for any information on what equipment would have been used on the truck, also what uniform the fire crew would have worn. Thanks for your quick reply. your champion looks fab. good to talk to a fellow stude enthusiast.

Here is a pic of our beautiful lady. Taken in 2007 at her first ever show at Chasewater Country Park. Staffordshire, England.

        Hope you like it.

Welcome to the forum Helen, here is a photo I snapped of an M series fire truck that was on display at the cross roads zone meet, South Bend Indiana, in May of this year. Perhaps someone here on the forum knows the owner and could get them in touch with Helen. This truck has much of its original equipment and displayed many period fire fighting items. They were extremely friendly and I really enjoyed talking with them.

Do you know what brand pump system it has? I have a rusty 49 with "American Apperatus" pump system. To engage the pump you must Disengage the drive shaft and put the transmission in 3rd gear. The way your truck is set up looks much like mine. NT

OK, did a quick search and you probably know this already but:

From the Neshanic Vol. Fire Dept website( http://www2.neshanicfire.com:81/Default.aspx?tabid=60 )

                    1951
A then state-of-the art pumper built on a Studebaker chassis is delivered. The truck costs $8,995. An addition is put on the firehouse to accommodate the new pumper.

                    edited to add:
                    1968
A second Hahn pumper replaces the Studebaker, which goes into storage.

                    Nov. 1972
The Studebaker comes out of storage and is loaned to Hillsborough Fire Company #2 while one of their pumpers is repaired. It is the last time the truck is in service.

I was going to suggest you may want to locate a copy of the June, 2007 Heritage Commercials magazine, but you're already quoted in it!!
